How Much More Will Vaping Cost You in Ireland After November 1
A significant price hike is coming for Irish vapers. Starting November 1st, a new government excise duty of 50 cents for every milliliter (ml) of e-liquid will take effect. This tax, announced in Budget 2025, applies to all e-liquids, whether they contain nicotine or not. If you vape, here’s a practical breakdown of how much more you can expect to pay.
The new tax will have the most dramatic impact on users of reusable vapes who buy bottled e-liquid. A standard 10ml bottle of e-liquid, which currently costs between €3 and €5, will now have an additional €5 of tax applied (50c x 10ml). This means the retail price will effectively double, jumping to between €8 and €10 per bottle.
For a regular user, this adds up quickly. An average vaper who consumes three 10ml bottles per week will see their weekly cost increase by €15. Over a full year, that amounts to an extra €780 spent on vaping.
Disposable vape users will also feel the pinch. A typical disposable vape containing 2ml of e-liquid will see a €1 increase in tax. With VAT applied, a disposable currently priced at €8 is expected to rise to approximately €9.23.
Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and Minister of State for Public Health Jennifer Murnane O’Connor have stated the tax is a key part of a strategy to protect young people by ensuring vapes are “no longer available at pocket money prices.” This measure complements other forthcoming regulations, including restrictions on packaging and flavors, and a ban on single-use vapes, all aimed at reducing the appeal and accessibility of these products to youth.
