Kyrgyzstan Proposes 6-Month Extension on Vape Import Ban
Kyrgyzstan authorities have drafted a resolution to extend the temporary ban on the import of e-cigarettes and e-liquids for another six months to curb youth nicotine addiction.
- Extended Restrictions: The proposed six-month ban covers all e-cigarettes, cartridges, and nicotine-containing liquids.
- Proven Effectiveness: Following initial restrictions in early 2026, vape imports plummeted from over 60 tons in 2024 to virtually zero.
- Stricter Border Control: Customs and border agencies will be tasked with tightening enforcement against illegal imports.
Kyrgyz authorities have introduced a draft resolution for public discussion to extend the temporary ban on importing e-cigarettes and nicotine liquids. This move aims to enforce public health laws and combat rising nicotine addiction among the youth.
The proposed six-month extension targets all vaping devices, cartridges, and e-liquids. Government officials justify the measure by pointing to its recent success: while vape imports—primarily from China—exceeded 60 tons in 2024, the initial restrictions implemented in early 2026 effectively reduced imports to zero.
Aligning with World Health Organization warnings regarding the public health threats of vaping, the government plans to notify international bodies, including the WTO and the Eurasian Economic Commission, if the resolution passes. Consequently, customs and border services will intensify enforcement to block prohibited products from entering the country.
