Malaysia Moves to Full Nationwide Vape Ban by 2026
Malaysia is taking decisive steps towards a complete nationwide ban on vaping, with the Health Ministry targeting final policy implementation by 2026. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed that the Cabinet has agreed in principle to the ban, stating, “It is not about whether we ban vape or not, but when.”
The ministry aims to implement the ban by mid-2026 or the end of that year at the latest, pending regulatory processes. Dr. Dzulkefly expects to bring the matter back to the Cabinet in early 2026. A key driver for this firm stance is the alarming rise in health issues linked to vaping, particularly mental health conditions caused by adulterated liquids containing synthetic substances like synthetic cannabis. “I was briefed earlier about patients presenting with drug-induced psychosis… some of which are consumed through vaping,” the minister revealed.
Dr. Dzulkefly emphasized that this move is not a “knee-jerk reaction” but a consistent progression of existing health policies, aligning with recommendations from medical bodies like the Malaysian Medical Association. A special task group is currently monitoring cases of vape-related substance abuse and psychosis.
