Mississippi Vape Shops Race to Beat Dec 1 Ban Deadline
Vape shops across Mississippi are scrambling to sell off inventory of non-FDA approved vaping products and cigarettes ahead of a statewide ban taking effect on December 1st. Passed earlier this year as House Bill 916, the legislation mandates that only FDA-authorized products—limited to tobacco and menthol flavors—can be legally sold.
Business owners like Yahya Ali, manager of Byram Tobacco and Vape, express deep concern over the financial impact. “Vapes is what got us here… That’s the only things we get money out of, really,” Ali stated, noting his family’s business faces significant losses on thousands of dollars of stock. Customers are equally frustrated, with some planning to cross state lines to purchase their preferred products.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue has warned that businesses failing to comply by the deadline will face strict penalties. The first violation for selling unapproved items will incur a fine of $500 per product, per day.
