Philippines DOH Pushes for Nationwide Total Vape Ban
The Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines is urging a complete nationwide ban on vape products, citing serious health risks and misleading marketing. The agency criticized advertisements that portray vaping as a safer, nicotine-free alternative to traditional cigarettes, asserting instead that both the vapor and the devices contain harmful chemicals linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and lung illnesses.
“It is often marketed that vape is nicotine-free… but the smoke and the vape device itself are full of chemicals and harmful,” the DOH stated in a news release. A major concern for the health unit is the appeal of these products to minors, driven by a variety of flavors and colorful packaging. Citing the 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey, the DOH highlighted alarming statistics showing that seven out of 10 Filipino youths aged 13 to 15 use vape products. This push for a ban aims to curb the rising trend of youth vaping and protect public health from the dangers associated with e-cigarettes.
