Russia Propose Full Ban on Vape Sales with Heavy Fines
Russia’s State Duma is set to consider a new legislative initiative that would completely ban both the wholesale and retail sale of all vapes and electronic cigarettes. The bill, proposed by deputies Sergey Mironov and Yana Lantratova, aims to address the widespread use of these devices, particularly among teenagers.
The proposal includes significant fines for violating the sales ban. For general sales, penalties would range from 20,000-50,000 rubles for citizens, 300,000-500,000 for officials, and 500,000-1,000,000 for legal entities. Penalties for selling to minors would be even stricter, reaching up to 2 million rubles for companies.
Deputy Mironov stated that despite existing laws prohibiting sales to minors, children still manage to acquire these products. He noted that around 4 million people in Russia use electronic smoking devices. This initiative follows another recent proposal to empower teachers to confiscate cigarettes and nicotine products from schoolchildren.
