Guernsey Considers New Tax on Vape Liquids for 2026 Budget
Guernsey’s top political body, the Policy & Resources Committee (P&R), is considering the introduction of a tax on vape liquids as part of its 2026 budget. This move follows the UK’s announcement of a similar levy set to be introduced in October 2026, which will be charged at a flat rate of £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid.
The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce is actively seeking feedback from its members on the proposed tax. The States will hold a consultation meeting with retailers to explore potential tax rates, the impact on businesses and consumers, and practical implementation details. The 2026 budget, the first from Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez’s P&R, is scheduled for publication on October 7th for debate on November 4th.
This consideration of a vape tax follows the passage of wide-ranging controls on vaping products earlier this year, which included a ban on the sale of vapes to individuals under 18 due to concerns about marketing to children.
