Russia: Sochi Expands Public Smoking and Vaping Bans Starting June 2026
On June 1, 2026, authorities in Sochi will enact sweeping new restrictions on smoking, vaping, and hookah use in public areas. Driven by Krasnodar Krai legislation, the expanded bans target high-traffic zones to severely limit public exposure to secondhand smoke and nicotine.
Under the new rules, strict buffer zones will be enforced around key infrastructure and residential areas to protect citizens and tourists.
| Restricted Area | Prohibited Distance |
|---|---|
| Medical, educational, cultural, and sports institutions; Public transport stops | Within 15 meters of entrances |
| Apartment buildings | Within 10 meters of entrances |
| General residential buildings (outdoors) | Within 5 meters (unless designated) |
| Pedestrian crossings, parking lots, garages, government buildings | Complete ban at entrances/inside |
Municipal employees and administrative commissions will actively enforce these rules. First-time offenders will face fines between 500 and 1,000 rubles, while repeat violators will be fined up to 2,500 rubles.
These new restrictions build upon Sochi’s existing anti-tobacco framework. The city previously outlawed smoking on beaches, playgrounds, gas stations, and inside public transport, airports, and elevators, aiming to create a healthier environment for all residents.
