Uzbekistan Enacts E-Cigarette Ban with Criminal Penalties
Uzbekistan has officially introduced criminal liability for the circulation of electronic cigarettes and related nicotine delivery systems. Recent amendments to the Law “On Restricting the Distribution and Consumption of Alcohol and Tobacco Products” establish a comprehensive ban on the production, purchase, storage, transportation, sale, import, and export of these prohibited items.
Under the amended Criminal Code, violations committed on a large scale or repeated after an administrative penalty will face severe consequences. Penalties include fines ranging from 300 to 500 Base Calculation Units (BRV), corrective labor for two to three years, restriction of liberty for three to five years, or imprisonment for three to five years.
However, the law provides an exemption from liability for individuals who voluntarily report their actions to authorities and surrender the prohibited products. This legislative move follows the Senate’s approval of the draft law in April, signaling a strict crackdown on the illegal circulation of vaping products in the country.
